Nisha Patel, M.S., RMFTI, is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate relational distress, life transitions, anxiety, and intergenerational patterns. She approaches therapy from a contextual, culturally humble perspective, understanding that symptoms take shape within relational, developmental, and sociocultural systems. Nisha is committed to creating warm, collaborative spaces where clients feel seen, respected, and empowered to pursue meaningful and sustainable change.
Nisha earned her Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland, along with Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Florida. Her graduate training included extensive clinical work through the University of Maryland’s Center for Healthy Families, where she completed intake evaluations, clinical assessments, case conceptualizations, and treatment planning for a diverse client population. She is a Certified Facilitator through Prepare/Enrich, specializing in premarital counseling to help couples build stronger relational foundations.
Nisha currently provides outpatient psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families through both in-person and telehealth sessions. She conducts biopsychosocial assessments and develops individualized treatment plans for clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, OCD, relationship distress, and life transitions, integrating evidence-based and systemic approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy, CBT, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Her clinical training also includes crisis and suicide risk assessment and safety planning, developed through her supervised clinical work at the University of Maryland and her earlier experience as a Phone Counselor at the Alachua County Crisis Center, where she completed specialized training in crisis intervention.
Beyond her clinical work, Nisha has contributed to research supporting a couples intervention program for partners impacted by incarceration and served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for an introductory family therapy course at the University of Maryland. Fluent in English and Gujarati with conversational Hindi, she brings a strong commitment to culturally responsive care, approaching each client with curiosity, humility, and respect for their lived experiences and identities.
Nisha’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and intentional, balancing support with gentle challenge while creating space for clients to feel comfortable being themselves. She particularly enjoys working with adults, couples, and families as they navigate periods of change, strengthen relationships, and develop a greater understanding of the patterns influencing their lives, tailoring every approach to each client’s individual story and goals.
