Recognizing and Coping with the Triggers of Anxiety Disorder

Anxiety disorder is the most common mental condition found in teenagers and adults; it has affected around 40 million adults in the U.S. The persistent stress, fear, and worry have a great impact on daily life routines, work, school, relationships and could cause health issues. However, finding out the triggers and managing the panic attacks is quite a challenging thing. 

Anxiety attacks could be intense or occasional, however, it is difficult to ignore the triggers but, you can avoid going to the places to prevent those feelings. Anything could trigger anxiety disorder, such as medical conditions, drugs, or trauma. Once you have identified the trigger, it is important to find ways to manage otherwise it will put you in a paralyzing condition. So, learn the triggers and their treatments. 

Triggers of Anxiety Disorder 

The triggers vary from person to person, but the most common are enlisted below that people usually experience. 

Excessive Caffeine Intake 

Drinking an excessive amount of caffeine could make people anxious and on edge, as it increases the levels of epinephrine. Epinephrine is a hormone that is associated with fight-or-flight reactions. When you love taking coffee as a morning cup to wake up, you never know how it is causing or worsening anxiety. 

Medicines 

Some over-the-counter medicines can cause symptoms of anxiety disorder. The medicines contain some kind of active ingredients that make you feel unwell. The anxious feelings cause a series of events in your mind that provoke additional symptoms of anxiety disorder. Weight loss medicines, birth control pills, and cough and congestion medicines could trigger anxiety disorder. So before you feel any uncertain condition talk to your doctor immediately. 

Sleeping Disorder 

Poor sleep could lead to certain health conditions. People who have disturbed sleeping patterns are also vulnerable to have anxiety disorders. The people who stay awake the whole night probably have negative thoughts or having some fears that are not letting them sleep. People who have chronic insomnia are more likely to have an anxiety disorder. 

Financial Crises 

People who are going through financial crises could have an anxiety disorder. The unexpected debts, bills, or school fees could be a trigger of anxiety disorder. Having financial problems at some stages is a part of life, the fear of unease money can provoke anxiety. There are many ways to manage the problem, or you can consult with a financial advisor. 

Relationship Problems 

Anxiety disorder due to relationship problems is quite common. When a person is having anxiety issues, it makes them feel limited or either fearful. Some people get it at the start of their relationship when they don’t know the partner feels the same way. Whereas, in other situations when people are experiencing hard times and potentially suck up in a relationship. 

Recognizing Anxiety Triggers 

People who are going through anxiety disorder may wonder how to track and recognize the triggers. Here are some tips that would help you! 

  • Track your feelings in a journal daily. Analyze the situation that makes you feel uneasy or worried. 
  • Share your feelings with someone. 
  • Think of any experience that is still affecting you. 
  • List down the major stressors such as job, friends, relationships, or anything. 
  • Check what you eat each day. If you are eating anything that could cause anxiety, cut them off. 

Coping up with Anxiety Triggers 

Managing the anxiety triggers could be challenging, however, there are some techniques with which you can cope up with the anxiety triggers. 

  • Make exercise a habit
  • Accept the life changes
  • Keep yourself busy
  • Work on your fears
  • Discuss the bad experience with someone you trust. 
  • Take enough sleep and rest
  • Keep yourself away from a stressful situation
  • Limit caffeine and caffeinated beverages
