Melissa Costero Diaz, Psy.D., is a Licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist specializing in comprehensive neuropsychological assessment across the lifespan. Her work focuses on helping children, adolescents, adults, and older adults better understand cognitive, behavioral, developmental, and neurological concerns through thorough evaluation and individualized recommendations. Dr. Costero Diaz earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Neuropsychology from Albizu University in Miami, Florida. She further advanced her specialty training through a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology at Thomson Memory and Attention Center in Chicago, where she gained extensive experience evaluating pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Her clinical expertise includes assessing neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and learning disorders, as well as traumatic brain injuries, psychiatric conditions, and complex neurocognitive disorders.
Throughout her career, Dr. Costero Diaz has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including private practices, academic medical centers, hospitals, and community mental health programs. She has conducted neuropsychological, psychoeducational, forensic, and dementia evaluations, helping patients navigate challenges related to cognitive functioning, academic performance, emotional well-being, and neurological health. Her experience spans conditions including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Costero Diaz has contributed to research focused on cognitive aging, dementia, traumatic brain injury, and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). As a Student Investigator at the University of Miami Jackson Behavioral Health Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and Aging, she participated in research examining early markers of dementia and age-related cognitive decline. Her research experience also includes studying the long-term neurocognitive effects of head injuries in athletes, reflecting her longstanding interest in brain health and injury prevention.
