Dr. Kenneth “Khensu” Carter is a board-certified psychiatrist dedicated to integrative and whole-person behavioral health care. With over two decades of experience in medicine, psychiatry, and public health, he combines traditional and modern healing approaches to help individuals achieve balance, resilience, and recovery.
Dr. Carter earned his Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University, Doctor of Medicine from Rutgers University School of Medicine, and Master of Public Health from Columbia University. He completed his psychiatry residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship in Psychiatric Epidemiology at Columbia University.
Dr. Carter currently serves as Lead Psychiatrist and Whole Health Educator at the Veterans Health Administration – Bay Pines Healthcare System. He has also held leadership and teaching roles, including Medical Director at SalusCare Behavioral Health and Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at Atrium Healthcare System. His contributions extend to research, policy, and federal initiatives such as SAMHSA’s Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP #45). Additionally, he is the president of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).
Recognized nationally by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM), Dr. Carter is a passionate advocate for culturally competent, trauma-informed, and community-centered care. His clinical philosophy reflects a belief in healing the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, through accessible, compassionate, and evidence-based integrative psychiatry.
