Salacia L. Cunningham, PMHNP-BC, is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing care across the lifespan. She graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2005 from the University of Florida. After years of servicing the Gainesville mental health community, she observed a need for specialized nursing care. With the desire to enhance her knowledge and skills, she obtained her Bachelor’s of Nursing from Jacksonville University. She continued her education at Jacksonville University and received her Master’s of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatry.
With nearly 20 years of experience in providing mental health care, she has had the opportunity to provide care to individuals from young children, adolescents/teens, adults and geriatrics including centenarians. Her clinical experience has been in diverse settings such as hospice, inpatient acute, forensic hospital, outpatient, corrections, nursing homes, long term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and assisted living facilities. During these experiences she has treated patients with Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Panic Disorder, Bipolar, Schizoaffective Disorder, ADHD, Eating Disorder, PTSD, Schizophrenia as well as Dementia. She is passionate about educating future nurses and has worked as a Clinical Instructor supporting Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner graduate students.
She utilizes a nonjudgemental, empathetic approach and aims to provide encouragement in identifying aspects in life that contribute to depression, anxiety and other emotions that may hinder the full potential in self development.
She gives back to her community in various ways focusing on supporting individuals who are homeless, single parents and victims of domestic violence. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family outdoors camping, hiking, bike trails and visiting the beach. She has a great interest in learning and embracing other cultures while traveling abroad.
